As a newcomer to Estonian classical composer Arvo Part I’m just finding my feet in his huge canon of work.
But I have made a discovery over the last few days – you can have the four tracks of Passio running on a more or less continuous loop and it creates an ethereal atmosphere of concentration and single-mindedness.
This is not intrusive music, it creates a kind of religious, maybe even spiritual mood in the room as it drifts in and out of your consciousness. Like being a devout monk studying biblical texts…
